The Great Debate - Crickets Best XI

| Introduction | Certainties | Wicketkeeper | Opening Batsman | Middle Order Batsman | Bowling All Rounder | Quick Bowler | Spin Bowler | 5th Bowler | Leaders | The Team | Others |

The first step I took was to decide which players were certainties in my team.

So I went from top of the batting through to the bowlers, deciding which players were dead certainties in my team. Herb Sutcliffe I consider to the best opener of all time and his record does show that. I have already got him as one of the openers, but as for the second opener, that’s open for debate later.

The great Don Bradman, automatically steps in at number 3, no explanation required. The remainder of the middle order spots, of which whether there will be 1 or 2, is also up to debate. Gary Sobers is taking either the number 5 or the number 6 spot, depending on which keeper I chose. I'm not really sure yet, but if I go for Gilchrist, he will bat at 6 and play just one middle order batsmen to partner Sobers and Bradman and play 5 bowlers.

The bowlers are very much up for grabs, although at least 1, if not 2, of Imran Khan and Keith Miller will be in the team. Malcolm Marshall is in my view the number 1 quick of all-time and has one of the bowling spots taken up for grabs. I'm not quite sure whether to pick 1 or 2 spinners, but this is going to be one talking point.

So at this stage we have Sutcliffe, Bradman, Sobers and Marshall definitely in the team.
